How we all wish we would have a mentor. Someone thats been down the path we want to go down so we can be guided and shown the way. Someone who’s walked thru the minefield first and can show us where they are so we can avoid them.
I remember thinking that exact thought.. this was before I actually had a mentor in my life. I thought if I just had a mentor I could do anything! Well I eventually got one! And it was amazing. My mentors have helped guide me thru so many financial, personal and spiritual roadblocks it’s ridiculous. Sometimes though…. they don’t always tell you what you want to hear, in fact.. they tell you what you NEED to hear. Acquaintances love you where you’re at, true friends.. and mentors love you too much to let you stay where you’re at. Relationships are like elevators, they either take you up or down – there is no stagnancy.
I remember when my mentor asked me.. “Zach, if i ever see anything that you may not, something that will trip you up, how do you want me to handle that? Do you want me to tell you or let you figure it out on your own?” I like any aspiring pupil answered “tell me, please!” Well thats cute, until they have to point out a blind spot. Remember a coach isn’t being a good coach if he or she notices something that could take you off course and they don’t say anything. Thats a passive coach that doesn’t deserve that title.
I remember someone telling me: “you’re not truly being mentored, until you get advice from a mentor, you DON’T agree with it… but, you take it anyway.” wow.
I hope you all aspire to have a mentor in your life. They keep us accountable, on track, humble and moving forward.
Remember, success is your obligation.
