Politics suck.

Corporate politics that is. (Though, regular politics aren’t much better.)

Most people work and work and work only to be un-rewarded for their effort…

Then they realize that in most jobs you don’t get paid that well for production.

You get paid a lot better for being a politician. I know. I’ve lived it.

I spent my first 9 months in a somewhat fancy corporate job at a large finance company learning everything, working my guts out and trying to outperform people.

When the first set of higher level management positions opened, I was too new to apply. But I did pay attention…

And what I saw shocked me.

I saw that almost EVERYONE who got promoted were not in fact better at the work than their adversaries.

In fact, many of them were WORSE.

How did they win?

Well instead of trying to master the little non-important intricacies of their job, they focused on building relationships with powerful people in the company.

When it came time for the management interviews, the other guys didn’t stand a chance.

So I followed what I saw them do. I made it a point to go out of my way to WAY over deliver for the string pullers. Not only that but I asked about their kids, their future plans and their aspirations. I was emotionally handcuffing them to me. Just like in network marketing.

6 months later I was promoted twice and overseeing people who had been there for 20 years.

Needless to say, I wasn’t exactly popular amongst the peons.

What’s the point?

The point is, is that IS A LOAD OF CRAP. Who freaking cares how good I was at politics? Truth be told… I hated playing that game. I would rather focus on progress.

And truth be told again…

POLITICS WON’T PAY YOU JACK IN BUSINESS.

The skills we learn in the job world WILL NOT serve you in your own business. But your business skills WILL serve you in the job world.

So don’t focus on crushing it at your job. Most people that control your corporations don’t care about progress. They care about not getting fired.

Don’t try to be the king. The king doesn’t get paid that much.

Lesson in Facebook Ads: Arithmetic solves all – If you can’t figure out what’s wrong with your sales funnel or ads. Try breaking it up into single bits. Then fix the bits.

This one single maneuver has allowed me to consult with agencies 100X bigger than mine. Seriously. Most marketers have an ad or funnel that’s not working and think they should scrap the whole idea. Stupid. It’s usually one or two things that’s broken, not twenty. Especially if you’re in a proven market.

For instance:

Ad = $1 CPC

Squeeze page = 4% conversion

Sales page = 2% conversion

OTO = 27% conversion

OTO 2 = 6% conversion

I can tell you right now that this funnel would BOMB. I mean for every 1000 visitors, you’d only get 40 leads and 40 people to see the sales page. That would suck.

But, if you look close. The rest of the funnel works great. Really great. What’s the issue?

The squeeze page.

This seems so simple, yet almost all “marketers” will scrap an idea because of numbers like this. Why? Because they never look at them.

Lesson in Network Marketing: Daily Mode of Operation – It’s funny. I see almost NO teams teach their people what they should do every week or every day. I used to sponsor people and not tell em’ what to do, thinking they didn’t want a job.

Well they don’t want a job but they do want structure and they want a system that works. That’s what you promised them, right?

So tell em’ what to do everyday!

If you need a template, here’s what I do:

-Produce 3 pieces of content and publish them on your Instagram and Fan page.

-Produce 1 piece of content for you personal pages. Make it more normal / less business. Weirdo.

-Contact 5 NEW people. Cold contact or online. Doesn’t matter.

-Invite AT LEAST 1 person to see the plan. (You have to do enough work for a few weeks before this is a reality)

-Follow up with your prospects and team

If you do that consistently. I don’t know how you can’t get results. If you do this in conjunction with a funnel (like me) your results can be exponential.

 

 

Book I Just Finished: Evolution 2.0 – To date this is the best and most fascinating book about marrying science and faith. The subtitle is “Breaking the deadlock between Darwin and Design” and after reading it…  I have to say,

It does stand up to that claim.

If you’re into apologetics (the logical argument for Faith) or evolution or just flat out don’t know what to believe. This is a great conversation starter.

My struggle prayer: Twist the knife or calm my spirit – This is the prayer I pray for anything hard. And it’s one I’m praying now… I’m not going to get into details right now, but Ashley and I are in a spot where we have a large decision to make. I honestly don’t know what to do… I honestly don’t even know “how” to pray for it. I can’t say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had.

All I know how to do is pray for wisdom. All I know is that God directs my steps and makes all things work together for my good.

So the prayer that helped me through a family member going through a very tough relationship, helped me find my wife and helped me start my most profitable business endeavor is this:

God, if I’m supposed to “insert big change”, twist the knife within me. Make it unbearable to stay on my current path and if I’m supposed to stay where I am and walk this path, calm my spirit and turn my heart back towards “insert issue.”

I can’t say that it doesn’t suck to do this. Because in most cases…

He twists the knife.
