Stop Lying…
It wouldn’t be a healthy Friday without Cinco Bala. This weeks top 5 lessons, hacks and quotes I’ve been pondering, applying and battling.
For those of you who are new, this is a concept I took from Tim Ferriss. (This is just focused on MLM and online marketing) If you don’t subscribe to his newsletter. You should do it.
Lesson in Network Marketing: Stop Lying – I’m not sure why someone needs to hear this but they do. Stop lying to your prospects.
Stop telling them they can be successful in a timeframe that you haven’t been able to achieve.
Stop spinning the dream without backing it up with facts.
I know this happens because I did it for years.
I was so enthralled when I had a captive audience or the attention of hopeful eyes over coffee.
I just didn’t want to let them down…
I knew they desperately wanted the business to work for them and I didn’t want to crush their dreams by sharing the cold hard truth. My lack of surgical honesty was not from deceit. It was from misguided love.
It’s like not telling your friend she’s dating a loser because the pain you both with experience in the now.
Network Marketing is filled with a bunch of get rich quick opportunity junkies that’d be better off slingin’ Chevy’s than helping someone achieve “freedom.”
And it’s ALSO filled with people who have no business being in MLM because the way they were wired does not lend itself to the demands MLM requires.
It is up to YOU and I to correct the crap stigma our MLM ancestors have so graciously given to us. We do that by leading with honesty.
Tell them how long it REALLY takes.
Tell them why it’s hard. Answer their questions AND THEN share your story… (No one is listening to a schpeal if their question is still buzzing around.)
The longer you treat this industry as a thing you’re “trying out” the longer your put yourself in the camp of liars. Why?
Because you think the half truths you tell have no reflect on you if you’re not in the industry.
If it doesn’t work, you can just move on. So might as well “paint things in the best light” to see if I can get results.
You won’t. And I never did with that attitude.
Leaders grow their team. Not try-ers.
Stop Lying Now.
Lesson in Online Marketing: Don’t Trust Ad Networks – We’ve been over this before but as a reminder, you cannot trust ANY ad network with your future.
Meaning, once you master an ad network and gain financial stability in your business… learn another one ASAP or hire someone to do it for you.
We rely heavily on Facebook ads to grow our business and most of the time they treat us right. But sometimes, a rogue ad reviewer had a bad day at home and comes into our account and shuts down all of our active (and already approved) ads just because.
Sadly this happens in many industries, not just MLM. But MLM is definitely not on the “love” list at Facebook headquarters.
The bottom line is this. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and every other ad network does NOT care about you or me or our businesses. They are self serving organizations who “care about the user” and they direct their focus at getting big brands (that don’t care about how much they spend on ads) to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into impression based marketing.
That means this: Master one network to get you good results. For us here at MLM Rebels, it’s Facebook ads, since it’s still the best bang for our money and time.
But after you’re getting results, MASTER ANOTHER NETWORK.
It’s so important that Ashley and I personally take the responsibility on ourselves to constantly test new networks and strategies each month for us and our team. We don’t want to be caught with our pants down.
Quote I Love: It’s better to fail in originality than succeed in imitation.
Book I’m Reading: The Book On Rental Property Investing – As you know, I’ve been devouring information about real estate investing recently and been planning our earthly takeover when we return from our expat adventures. I picked this book up after I made it through the “beginner section” of REI books but it’s one that EVERYONE refers to. Plus the author commented on one of my Facebook posts asking for advice as we start acquiring real estate.
While the majority of the book focuses on strategies and property types I won’t actually invest in (small houses) there is still some incredible information in here about all kinds of strategies. If securing the money you make in MLM in real estate is of interest, this is a pretty good book to start with!
Favorite Place We’ve Traveled: Chiang Mai – Situated in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai has offered us the perfect blend of heat without humidity, cheap food and amazing people. It’s like NYC compared to Bali but it’s not as developed as Kuala Lumpur. Considering you can take a family of 7 out for an amazing meal for about $6 and live in a large, upscale, modern house in gated community for less than $1000…
It’s hard to come back to the U.S.
But we are.
For now…
Talk soon,
Zach
