It wouldn’t be a healthy Friday without Cinco Bala. This weeks top 5 lessons, hacks and quotes I’ve been pondering, applying and battling.
For those of you who are new, this is a concept I took from Tim Ferriss. (This is just focused on MLM and online marketing) If you don’t subscribe to his newsletter. You should do it.
Lesson in Network Marketing: Don’t Cash Out Your Investments – A common piece of advice in (low level) business owners is to “burn your ships.”
Meaning intentionally burn ALL your bridges behind you so that you have NO back up plan if your business fails. They liken the story to the old war general who ordered his soldiers to burn their ships when they arrived on the foreign soil. The soldiers no longer had a way home. The HAD TO WIN.
A powerful analogy. And one that should be used. However, it is constantly taken way too far in network marketing.
Most notably in the form of intentionally making ZERO advancement in the corporate world AND cashing out investment accounts to invest in their MLM business BEFORE the business is producing decent cash flow.
I got so animated about this topic that I recorded a podcast about it. You can listen to it here…
But I’ll spoil the surprise.
Give your business EVERYTHING you’ve got but DO NOT hurt your future self by sacrificing your relationships, health or current investments while giving it everything.
Unless of course you want to sacrifice your health and relationships for money only to spend all your money getting your health back and hunting down new relationships…
Lesson in Online Marketing: Sell It First – So many people try to create these whiz bang funnels that have contingencies for every single thing that could happen…
What happens if someone clicks on this but doesn’t buy that?
What if someone buys but doesn’t join that list?
The what ifs NEVER end and they’ll spend weeks or months planning for every single scenario only to find out that their funnel DOES NOT SELL.
Here’s a crazy reality – If your funnel doesn’t sell, does it matter how well it works?
Obviously not.
So before you attempt to automate every single little thing and write every single email and plan for every single contingency…
Make sure people want to buy what you’ve got.
THEN spend the time making things fancy.
To be honest, we STILL have things in some of our funnels that are not squeaky clean. Things that should be done automatically that are not.
That’s because we focus on sales and serving our customers / reps. The fancy stuff comes AFTER serving people and eating.
New (Old) Word: Larapin – The most vibrant 90 year old man I’ve ever met taught me this. Brand new to me, old to the world. Larapin.
It means really freakin’ good!
“That fried chicken was larapin!” – Fun fact for you 🙂
Something I’ve been Overcoming: Asking For Prayer – I’ve typically been one to offer prayer when someone asks me and I’ve been getting a lot better at praying for people who need it right there on the spot, assuming I’m not disregarding where they’re at in their faith walk.
I’ve also been pretty good at being vulnerable with what I’m struggling with…
IF it’s in private, with God. But not in public.
I do a decent job of giving my cares to God and consistently spending time with Him in private. I let him know what I’m struggling with and proclaim victory according to His promises.
But something I DON’T do well is let my fellow man know what I’m struggling with.
Up until two weeks ago, I’ve never went to a “prayer line” at church and accepted someone else’s prayer for me. Personally, I just didn’t want to seem weak or that I needed help, even though the essence of my faith (Christianity) is that we can NOT do it all on our own. I had a contradictory set of values in my mind.
For months, during a prayer line call, I would feel it in my bones that God wanted me to go up there and give him my burdens in public.
But my feet wouldn’t move and I’d cry inside. I knew I was disobeying.
Two weeks ago we went to a Saturday night service to help with our schedule and I did it again. Concrete blocks in my shoes wouldn’t let me go to the prayer line.
But I finally had enough. And I laid in bed that night telling Ashley of my predicament. (as if she didn’t know – women are smart)
The next day (Sunday) we got up early and went to church AGAIN, just so I could go in the prayer line. I’m a firm believer that God won’t give you the next task or assignment until you complete the first.
And I kept failing…
Well, I’m happy to say that I got prayed for and it felt really good. (Humbling at first)
…And just to completely kick the habit, I’ve committed to getting prayed for everytime someone asks.
My male ego will no doubt try to keep me from it but I know I have to.
Remember, humans were designed to be care free. Worry free. Anxiety free. That’s why carrying anxiety is a crushing load.
Give it to God. He’s designed to carry your burdens.
You’re designed to live.
